"Just Alike"

My dad used to put his face next to mine.
Then we'd grin big and he'd say,
"We're looking just alike."

Over the years, he shortened it to "just alike".
Then he did it with the grandkids.

Now that he is gone, I miss that.
But, I'm carrying on the tradition
(as well as others) in a new small way.

My 4 yr. old great-niece loves to have her fingernails painted.
(And so do I!)
I painted her nails 1st at my niece's wedding
a year and a half ago
to match mine.
She remembered that and wanted me to do it
again last Christmas, but I didn't have the
polish with me.

This year, I remembered it!

(She did tell my sister, her Grammy, that if I didn't have any polish,
she was bringing some.  So cute!)

Given several options, she wanted them
painted like mine.

So, "just alike" is still around!
Girl-style!!!

"Snowflakes"

I've been making some of Patricia Kristoffersen's little doilies lately.  Here are 2 I gave as bridal shower gift in November (along with the beautiful bride-to-be).

Since I forgot to take a picture of them beforehand, I was glad they took this picture!

Sneakers

I made a few alterations to the original pattern.  I did not use the finishing edge, as I thought plain was better for a boy.  I added the eyelet holes for the laces and made the soles white with a black pinstripe.

Painting Season

I live in a brick house.  So painting isn't usually a chore I have outside.  But all the trim was needing it as well as the garage doors.  I have almost completed the front of the house.  I just have my rose trellis wrought iron supports left.

Now I have turned my attention inside.  I hope to get the bathroom renovations finished up by making a curtain, giving the bathroom cabinet a fresh coat of polyurethane, freshening the wall paint, painting the ceilings, and replacing the mirror in the boys' bathroom with a bigger one.  More on that later.

Here are my front flower beds:

And here is our new shed.  My hubby and boys built it and painted it.  My hubby has added shelves.

And he bought me this great tool holder:

Here's my garden this year:

Booties for Bob

My husband has a booth at a local antique mall.  The booth fee is quite steep for someone just starting out, so I decided to make him some booties to sell.  If they sell, I thought it could help him out.  So I hope it works.

Here they are---

One for a girl:

I threaded red ribbon in through the eyelet row, but I didn't get a pic of that.

And one for a boy:

I like the cute little button.

Here's hoping!!!

He already took the white ones to the booth.  The blue are ready to go.  See?

The white booties are from the Bootie Collection, White Shells, Pattern #3.
The blue booties are from the Booties by the Dozen collection, Little Loafers, Pattern #10.

Mother's Day Card

My 15 year old helps in children's church some Sundays.  He happened to be helping on Mother's Day.

See what he made me?

Isn't that AWESOME?  :)

He loves kids and I think he is awesome for helping with them.  He goes to karate early a lot of nights to help teach the younger kids too.  What a guy!

Black Tennies

Here is a preview pic of things you'll be seeing over the next week or two.  One of which I won't show til I get it blocked (the one hanging on the basket).

First the black sneaker booties:

Several components together.

The bootie builds in layers.

Shoestring.

By George...

I think she's got it!!!

I posted about this beautiful sweater pattern a long, long time ago.
(See here.)
But I never could get the sizing right, so I took a break.

Then the other day I started it up again.  My last attempt
has apparently not been so bad, because I decided it
was actually about the right size.  In the picture,
you can see my swatch that wasn't really
very helpful, one of my more sizable attempts
that isn't long enough, and the most
recent is wrapped around the
crochet thread ball.

I think I can rework the larger of my attempts
into a nice scarf.  So that makes me happy.
I feel that all that hard work was not for
naught!!!

Mostly, I am very happy to crochet
merrily away on the sweater so I
can actually get to wear it some day.

Have any of you been working on a
project that you just can't quite get
to work?

I'd LOVE to hear your story!
Leave it in the comments!!!

Flowers of 2012

Our internet has been off for over a month.  I'm just now back on.  I have been busy around the house with a little crochet here and there.  I need to photograph a few things.

In the meantime, here are some photos of my flowers.
